Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I posted about the new zines and comics available at Black Light Diner Distro, and there are a ton of them!

BOOTY #19 (Amherst, MA)
Covering the time period between September 2003 and March 2005, this issue of Anne's personal comic book includes work stories, an encounter with an animate snowman, a last-minute, surprisingly cheap vacation to Iceland (!), and a very moving piece about Anne's relationship to her breasts, tying in with her mother's double mastectomy. Booty is a zine I started reading when it was carried by the late, great Pander Zine Distro, and I'm happy to say that it is just as I've remembered it: smart, often funny, and with simple, cute art that tells its stories well. Half-legal, 16 pages.

BOOTY #20 (Florence, MA)
Anne's twentieth entry in her long-running comic series is another long-delayed issue, spanning the two years between April 2005 and March 2007. It recaps the happenings of 2005 and 2006, with work woes, moves, and a trip to Las Vegas. Though Anne may have gone without making a comic for two years, she was still active in the art world, as shown by a story about a Cheap Art Show, where everything was a dollar and the art was presented on clothes lines! Another jam-packed issue. Half-legal, 16 pages.

BOOTY #21 (Holyoke, MA)
There's a distinct artistic shift in this issue of Booty; while Anne Thalheimer's personal comic remains scrappy and simple, there's more realism here, and more organized page construction. Not bad, just different! It's an issue full of new things in Anne's life: she talks about her new business making and selling monster hats (which I saw at SPX and they are really cute), her new corporate job, yet another new address, and a new hobby refereeing her local roller derby league. There is also a piece about fear of pregnancy, which really struck a personal chord. Half-legal, 16 pages.

BOOTY #22 (Holyoke, MA)
Spanning July 2008 to September 2009, the most recent issue of Anne Thalheimer's Booty series includes an hourly comic, a trip to Belfast with her mom, cat stories, Anne's love of minicomics and how they fulfill the need for instant satisfaction (I definitely feel this one!), and an emotional--if enigmatic--piece about recovery from violence and how it's never as complete as we think it is. Half-legal, 16 pages.

KING-CAT COMICS AND STORIES #68 (Denver, CO)
John lost his long-lived feline friend Maisie before writing this issue, which lends it a tinge of sadness. A drive in a moving van leads to an attempt to dictate a comic to his wife, with mixed results. Later, a series of comics chronicle the adventures of Diogenes the Cynic, the original punk rock philosopher. Simply drawn and always heartfelt, a classic comic perzine. Half-sized, 36 pages.

KING-CAT COMICS AND STORIES #69 (Denver, CO)
Much of this issue is concerned with the adoption of two new cats after the loss of John's longtime companion Maisie. Stories of kitty hijinks follow, along with metalhead memories, reader response, the Top-40 list (a King-Cat fixture!), and introspective poem-like pieces, all illustrated with John's basic-yet-evocative drawings. King-Cat is a definite must-read for any comix fan. Half-sized, 32 pages.

KING-CAT COMICS AND STORIES #70 (Denver, CO)
The newest issue of John Porcellino's renowned personal comic kicks off with a reflection on sobriety. Later on, a teenaged John and pals perpetrate an ill-fated copy scam. More stories in this classic comics zine focus on a return to Trinidad, depression, wisdom tooth removal, and a paean to the suburbs. Twenty years after John's first issue, King-Cat remains one of the best comics zines around. Half-sized, 36 pages.

MISS SEQUENTIAL #1 (Somerville, MA)
This is the new zine by Marissa Falco, formerly of "Red Hooded Sweatshirt." Super-cute comic stories about tattoo dreams, walks to work, swimming, and her unwitting murder of Bea Arthur. It's been a long time since Marissa's made a zine, and this is an excellent re-entry into the zine world. Quarter-sized, 20 pages.
