If I had a personal assistant they would be writing this for me right now. I would also like someone to write to Oprah to complain about her use of chimps on her show. I'd also like someone to write a letter to Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkely, our state senators, about taxing packaging in Oregon. Or, write the massage studio about their use of Native American iconography in their waiting room. If I had a personal assistant they'd also be installing adsense on my cheese blog, applying for food stamps for me, and did I also mention I would like a live-in masseuse?… Okay, enough of that, down to business.
I'm writing a zine review of Katie's zine, Aubade. Katie sent two of her zines to me a couple weeks ago. They just recently made it onto my bathroom counter, which is where I keep most of my light reading. I really liked these zines a lot. One of them, Aubade number four, is about Virginia where Katie grew up. I liked how she used the framework of geography to talk about bigger issues: memory, urban sprawl and childhood. It made me want to write my own zine using this structure.
The other zine that Katie was kind enough to send me was very charming. It's all about her family's vacation to Florida over the July fourth weekend. My family doesn't take vacations so it was hard to relate in that respect, on the other hand, I'm living with my family so I could definitely identify there. Katie sandwiches a day-by-day account of the vacation with funny, little comics that she drew. I really enjoyed reading it and her family sounds like total characters.
