Node Pajomo 2.2

PJM, Contact: Post Office Box 2632, Bellingham WA 98227-2632, USA; Size: 8.5" x 5.5" Page count: 24

I'm not sure how many issues of Node Pajomo I've missed since the last one I received back in March 2013, so suffice it to say how glad I am that it's still going.

NP is an essential zine resource since not only does it feature zine reviews, but reviews of independently-released musical projects [genres like experimental, noise, ambient, folk, metal, etc] and even 'ephemera' that other zine review zines would not touch, since they could not be defined as 'zines' - what I mean here is, for example, single-page 'newsletters' like those Truman Bentley Jr. made [I wonder if Truman is still creating these? Truman! Wake up grab a brush and put on a little make-up! and please resume communication! I must know >>> How are your Self-Improvement lessons going?]

Node Pajomo also includes Mail Art Listings. It's good to know there are still people doing these through the post, because as PJM observes: "This used to be the core of the zine but the tantalizing glow of digital social media has changed the way that the majority of mail artists interact with each other..."

Finally I'll note PJM's appealing writing style, which is fresh and incisive, and perhaps best of all, is his readiness to challenge a zinester [see scanned page above] - quite rare in zinedom these days. Why does it seem impossible in 2017 to find a zine reviewer who is not terrified of saying something even remotely negative? Too nice. Too boring.

Cuneiform #4

Cuneiform #4
8 1/2" x 11", 10 pgs, $?
This is a compilation zine. It's composed of contributions from those dedicated to keeping print alive and making communication through the postal mail system a priority. James Dawson starts off the zine by sharing some of his recent experiences at the public library and offering some of his thoughts about the internet as well as some other random things. Very interesting. Next there are some letters and zine reviews. This issue ends with a piece extolling the virtues of books, "a wonderful concept." Worth a look for those devoted to the world of print. The editor of the zine changes from time to time, but for now write to:

CALL for MAIL ART: VISUAL POETRY

via Crg Hill's poetry scorecard by Crg Hill on 4/12/10

DEADLINE: August 1st, 2010

Mail Art received will be exhibited at SKYLAB in downtown Columbus OH USA during August 2010 during the Avant Writing Symposium at The Ohio State University (symposium is being organized by my spouse, John M Bennett- curator of the Avant Writing Collection-part of OSU library's Rare Books & MSS Library).  As a tribute to John, who will retire from OSU sometime around the end of this year, SKYLAB will concurrently exhibit a retrospective of JMB's visual poetry. Our son, John Also Bennett, the main curator for SKYLAB, will install JMB's vispo show, and I'll install the mail art show & do the documentation. A collaboration table set up by Jim Leftwich and other performances will happen at SKYLAB Saturday night (time TBA) August 21st during the Avant Writing Symposium- so some participants from the OSU Avant Writing Symposium will be there and will see the mail art show...and may even send in their own contributions. Hopefully, I'll have lists of addresses available as handouts to anyone who might want to start or carry on m.a. correspondences with participants in the m.a. show. Feel free to include blog or website addresses you'd like to share, along with your mailing address or email address.

Pimp My Card

via Stuff by wackystuff by wackystuff@shaw.ca (wackystuff) on 11/7/09
I am starting to upload a large collection of modified postcards on my new Tumblr blog.
These are one-of-a-kind pieces I did over the last few years and mailed out to folks everywhere. I wasn't meticulous about scanning everything, but I did manage to document 600 of them.
