Every year artists around the world participate in INKtober. This October I took the challenge and produced 31 ink illustrations in one month. The purpose of all illustrations included in this book are uniqueness, self-expression, and fun! I poured a lot of TLC into each drawing and tried lots of fun new techniques.

Each 4.25x5.5 inch art book includes 31 pages of crisp, laser-printed images. The structure is hand-bound so no two books are exactly alike.

GOLD EDITION! Gold edition books are available for those who love all things shiny. Add $2 and I will hand paint gold detailing on 7 images that originally included gold ink. This is an effect that is impossible to capture digitally and is best appreciated in person. Shiny!!

I will sign books inside the cover unless otherwise asked. And don't forget to request a little doodle for me to include!

All drawings are family friendly and full of character!

So, what's this about a Dorkroom Zine, then?
The basic idea is to publish a zine filled with photos by Dorkroomers. I'd like to think it'll be a representation of people's best work, but hey, whatever. Of course, making a physical zine costs real-world money, so if you want to be a part of this crazy project, you're going to have to be willing to buy a copy (price to be determined, depending on how much content we have and the quality of the materials.)

Who are you, elgarbo, and how are you qualified to do this?
I'm probably not qualified, but hey, I've got the time and the willingness to organise it. I've made a zine, I know a guy who owns a company printing these things and did a real swell job on my first run around and the price was really reasonable. I've investigated and priced different qualities of paper. I also have some vague experience with putting together one of these things in InDesign - it's probably not going to be a masterpiece of design, but for a Dorkroom publication it'll probably suffice. I am quite happy to do this as a hobby and have no intention of making any money out of this thing whatsoever.

That said, if there's anyone else with the time and willingness to get involved, I'd be grateful for the assistance.

What's the process?
There are a few things that will need to happen to get this off the ground. They are:

1. People registering their interest in participating.
2. Deciding on a name for this fine publication
3. Deciding on the cover photograph
4. Deciding on paper stock
5. Receiving submissions from everyone participating.
6. Collating it into some sort of vaguely aesthetically pleasing design.
7. Finalising the cost.
8. Receiving moneys.
9. Printing / posting.
10. Celebrate!

So, if I participate, what can I contribute?
I envision that everyone who participates will get a double page spread to show off their work. Each page of the zine will be 8 inches wide by 10 inches high, so you'll have a total space to work with of 16 wide by 10 high across the fold of the page. You can fill that space with as much or as little work as you like, as I see it. I'm also happy to take written text, so if you want to write a little spiel about your photos, by all means. If you want to write a little poem about your photos, unusual... but cool. If you want to draw and scan a little picture that goes with your photos, that's also fine. If you don't want to submit any photos whatsoever, but you want to write an essay about photography, that's also not a problem. As long as it all relates to photography in some way, and it fits across a double page spread.

Let's talk cash money
It's hard to pin down a precise figure, because that will depend entirely on the number of pages and the quality of materials. In all likelihood, the cost could be anywhere between $5 and $20 Australian pesos, not including postage. Postage costs are roughly $2.10 within Australia for one zine, $5 to New Zealand and about $7 anywhere else in the world.

The value of the Australian dollar is currently spiralling into the abyss, so there is every chance that by the time this project comes to its conclusion, your real-world dollars will be able to purchase an infinite supply of this quality publication for the equivalent of a stick of gum.

Sounds rad, I want to get involved.
Sweet. Leave a message in this here thread and we can get to work.

Self Care / Community Support compzine (call for submissions)

Activism and Social Justice can be as exhausting as they are rewarding. Trying to navigate the choppy waters of mental and physical health conditions, even without the added stressors of stigma, can be brutally overwhelming. Family, jobs, school, even work that we find personally rewarding can be hard to maintain on a long-term level.
Self-care means (often wildly) different things to different people - this zine will attempt to start a dialog within communities about how we can better support ourselves and each other during times of stress and trauma. This compilation is open to stopies, first person narratives, illustrations and photography, poetry, lists, recipies, etc.
Some possible topics might include:
- what is self-care? why is it important?
- self-care on the cheap: free or cheap ways to take good care of yourself
- the role of allies: how can you support friends who are having problems with socialization
- easy recipes for when everything seems impossible and/or exhausting
- experiences of POC/queer/trans/gender non-conforming folks within the scope of feminism, anarchism, activism
- the value of vegging: sometimes shutting off your brain is the most useful thing you can do
- how to ask for help when everything but silence is painful There aren’t any limits to what you can write about, of course, these are just a few ideas that I have been throwing around. I hope to make this into a zine and a PDF that are available for wide distribution, but contributors will be the first people to get copies from me (and will be encouraged to send this project as far into the wide world as possible).
Deadline is Janurary 30, 2013 with a (hopeful and admittedly ambitious) publication date of March 1, 2013. Please email submissions to: piratesarah@gmail.com (or email if you need to send them via snail mail)

Catharsis: Trans Women’s Stories of Sexual Violence

Call for Submission: Catharsis: Trans Women's Stories of Sexual Violence

Call for Submission If you want to help further or have any questions please contact reddurkin@gmail.com
Catharsis: Trans Women’s Stories of Sexual Violence
**Please Share & Repost!**
Catharsis: Trans Women’s Stories of Sexual Violence is seeking written submissions from trans women who are willing to share their experiences of sexual violence and assault. The goal is to create a book-length collection of personal essays and stories from trans women about their individual experiences. Through compiling these stories, we hope to counteract the tendency of broader feminist dialog to deal with the subject of violence against trans women as hypothetical, ethereal, and comparatively minimal. We also hope that such a compilation would reinforce the place of trans women among all women and help to bring support and healing to our often overlooked communities.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS JULY 31ST, 2012!

What We’re Looking For: Stories of personal experience from self-identified trans women who are survivors of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual violence. Submissions should be roughly 2-5 pages in length and focus primarily on individual experiences and feelings. Because every individual processes these experiences in different ways, the “tone” of the collection will be left to the contributors. Anger, humor, grief, healing, indifference, etc. are all welcome themes. Those wishing to remain anonymous will have that wish respected and not be named in the final publication. Anonymity will be granted to the degree at which it’s requested, so please make your needs clear with your submissions.

Why Trans Women Only? The perception that trans women are less often targets of sexual violence is incredibly pervasive, even among allies to the trans community. This erroneous assumption is deeply rooted in cissexism, transphobia, and transmisogyny. While sexual violence affects many communities and is often taboo or “invisible” in those communities, trans women’s experiences are uniquely derided and ignored. This results in the isolation of trans women survivors, a culture of silence within broader trans communities, and a false pretense for the exclusion of trans women from feminist conversations about rape and assault. The purpose of this collection is to give voice to and encourage dialog around the specific reality of sexual violence against trans women. We are interested in work by trans women of all backgrounds, regardless of transition status, race, class, education, ability, age, orientation, or occupation. Any survivor of sexual violence that self-identifies as a trans woman is encouraged to contribute.

Anyone wishing to assist this project is encouraged to **forward this call for submissions widely.**

When the artist is alive in any person,
whatever his kind of work may be, he
becomes an inventive, searching, daring,
self-expressive creature. He becomes
interesting to other people. He disturbs,
upsets, enlightens and opens ways for a
better understanding. Where those who are
not artists are trying to close the book, he
opens it and shows there are still more
pages possible.
